Bruno Deffains joined De Gaulle Fleurance Avocats & Associés in 2022, where he advises on issues requiring expertise at the intersection of law and economics, both in advisory and litigation matters. His practice spans various areas, including economic law, competition and distribution, Regulation, digital and environmental transitions, renewable energy, and the assessment of economic and ecological damages.
Bruno Deffains has been a Professor of Law and Economics since 1998, holding a position at the University of Paris Panthéon-Assas since 2009, and is an honorary member of the Institut Universitaire de France. Renowned for his expertise in the interplay of law and economics, he develops projects at the crossroads of these disciplines. A former President of the European Association of Law and Economics, he directs the Master’s program in Business Law and Economics at the University of Panthéon-Assas, as well as training programs on “Digital Transformation of Law and LegalTech” and “Economic Mediation.” He has been a guest lecturer at prestigious universities worldwide, including Yale, Columbia, Montreal, Liverpool, Humboldt, and Siena. Within the Panthéon-Assas Foundation, he established the “Competition and Digital” Chair. He is also a member of the Scientific Council of the Fondation pour le Droit Continental, contributing to the development of the Global Observatory of Legal Indicators.
Since 2013, he has been a member of the Commercial Practices Review Commission and served on the National Consultative Commission on Human Rights in 2018 and 2023. Additionally, he is an expert at the Club des Juristes, Co-Head of the Digital Justice Commission at Paris Place de Droit, and an Expert at the European and International Affairs Commission of the French National Bar Council (CNB).
Recognized by clients for his ability to analyze disputes and their economic implications, as well as his keen sense of litigation and non-litigation strategy and his innovative approach to case management, Bruno Deffains assists companies and institutions both internationally and in France.
