Bofill Mir Abogados boosted its data protection credentials in June 2023 with the recruitment of senior associate and data protection specialist Jorge Tisné Niemann from Jara Del Favero Abogados, where he led the IT and data protection practice.
Contraloría Privada launched a data protection and cybersecurity practice in November 2023 when it hired Andrés Pumarino (as a partner) from Legal Trust; Pumarino’s broad practice includes information security-related implementation issues, as well as compliance services.
The data privacy team at boutique law firm H&Co Abogados, which specialises in privacy and regulatory compliance along with data protection regulations, is co-led by founding partner and personal data-protection specialist, Felipe Harboe and senior associate Jose Miguel Catepillan, who is a digital regulation expert.
Prieto Abogados established a personal data protection practice in December 2023 when it hired former legislative adviser to the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, Romina Garrido, as counsel and team head; Garrido is experienced in personal data management strategies, privacy policies, AI-related issues, data-driven projects and data transfer contracts.

Data privacy in Chile

Barros & Errázuriz

Barros & Errázuriz‘s five-member data privacy team comprises specialists in the drafting, editing and implementation of privacy policies. The group consistently reviews a range of agreements involving personal data transfers, its expertise including assessments of their legal impact on clients’ business models in Chile. The practice provides ongoing regulatory advice to DirecTV Chile’s legal division on data privacy matters, while Chinese mobile transportation platform DiDi, Chilean power distribution company Grupo Saesa and Spanish pool manufacturer Fluidra are also key clients. The department is co-led by longstanding TMT sector expert, José Ignacio Ovalle, who routinely advises national and foreign companies on personal data protection issues; and Andrés Rodríguez (at partner level since March 2023), whose experience includes advising the Government of Chile on telecoms, IT and data privacy work. Rodríguez’s career also includes working for four years as former chief legal adviser at the Undersecretary of Telecommunications. In the associate team, Magdalena Rojas is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/Europe), who advises clients on the adaptation of their processes and contractual documents to local personal data protection legislation; and Fernanda Irrazabal, whose experience includes a nine-month internship in Barcelona, where she advised companies on compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
