Firms To Watch: Banking and finance

Following the June 2024 departure of Brian Minutti to establish his own firm and José Antonio Chávez‘s departure for an in-house role, the former Chávez Vargas Minutti Abogados renamed itself as Actio Legal Partners. The firm remains equipped to handle a range of finance mandates, including financing contracts, the private securitisation of assets, and the structuring and refinancing of liabilities. It also advises debtors and creditors alike on regulatory matters. Managing partner Luis Fernando Serralonga is the name to note.
The finance offering at Assembla - a new firm launched in March 2024 - is led by experienced practitioner Andrés Nieto whose practice covers banking and finance, fintech and capital markets, as well as corporate law (including M&A), private equity and arbitration.
An October 2025 spin-off from Sainz Abogados, boutique firm BRIT Abogados is a name to note for banking and finance matters as a result of the presence of Mario E Juárez, whose practice takes in project, structured and corporate finance, as well as capital markets, M&A, and regulatory matters; he regularly advises both domestic and international financial institutions, development banks and corporate clients. Additionally, fellow partner Daniel Saltzberg  frequently handles structured and corporate financing as part of his broader real estate practice.
If there were ever any doubt about the seriousness of Chevez Ruiz Zamarripa's strategic decision to diversify its service offering, the September 2024 hire of Humberto Pérez Rocha – formerly a practice co-head at Galicia Abogados S.C. – should set them firmly to rest; Pérez Rocha brings 30 years’ experience and a practice that encompasses corporate and M&A, capital markets, and banking and finance. He joins a corporate finance practice group led by Jimena González De Cossío.
Primarily focused on corporate finance and transactional matters, Fernandez, Garcia-Naranjo, Boker & Garibay, S.C. was launched following the November 2024 closure of Mayer Brown’s Mexico City office by its former partners Francisco Garcia Naranjo, Jan Boker and Raúl Fernández Briseño, along with senior associate Francisco Javier Garibay Güémez. The group focuses on M&A transactions, banking and finance law, and restructuring and insolvency, along with competition matters and real estate.
Founded by Brian Minutti in June 2024, International Disruption is less a traditional law firm than a platform designed to permit both local and international investors to participate in debt operations without having to create an additional business entity. The firm offers legal, administrative, operational, regulatory and financial services, along with monitoring processes; in addition to Minutti (finance, capital markets and compliance), the currently 11-strong firm can draw on the legal expertise of former Actio Legal Partners finance co-head Alejandro Carreño (planning & implementation of corporate structures and financing projects).
April 2024 saw international firm Ontier México hire regulatory and fintech specialist Héctor González Martínez, who previously led the banking department at Calatrava Consultores, as practice head. The group routinely assists banks, fintechs, investment funds and commercial entities with a range of regulatory matters and financial transactions.
Founded in 2015 by Aaron Antonio Russek Garza and Luz María Sobrino Corzo, boutique firm Sobrino | Russek is equipped to handle banking regulatory matters, project finance mandates and subnational debt transactions, among other financial specialties. The group is reguarly called upon by multinationals, public entities, banks, financial institutions and credit rating agencies.
