Blackstone Chambers is ‘at the vanguard of telecoms law’ and has capabilities across the set in competition and EU cases. Recent work for the set includes that of James Segan KC who appeared before the Court of Appeal in Tesla v InterDigital & Avanci on behalf of Tesla regarding which licence fees should be paid by car manufacturers for tech in 5G cellular-enabled vehicles. Further, Jessica Boyd KC is acting alongside Brian Kennelly KC and others in Stasi v Microsoft Corp & Ors, defending collective proceedings brought in relation to alleged cloud services-related license abuses. Emily Neill has ‘deep knowledge’ of the sector and is a noteworthy barrister, as is George Molyneaux who continues to act for Gibifibre before the Supreme Court of Gibraltar in Gibfibre Ltd v Gibtelecom Ltd, which involves an alleged abuse of a dominant position regarding the supply of communications services from the largest data centre in Gibraltar.

Devereux
Devereux’s set has expertise spanning various IT and telecoms disputes, including matters regarding the Electronic Communications Code. Graham Read KC is acting for the claimant in EE Ltd/Hutchinson 3G UK Ltd v AP Wireless II (UK) Ltd, an upcoming case which regards whether the agreement, by which the Electronic Communications apparatus is kept on the telecoms site, is a lease protected under the 1954 Landlord and Tenant Act separate from the Code or is some other form of arrangement falling within the terms of the Code.
Falcon Chambers
Falcon Chambers is noted as ‘the go-to set for telecoms work’. Property-related telecoms work is the specialist area of Stephanie Tozer KC whose recent cases include acting for BT in On Tower Plc v British Telecommunications plc on appeal wherein BT attempted to terminate its lease with On Tower and terminate Electronic Communications Code agreements in order to redevelop a BT telephone exchange site on which On Tower has installed telecoms equipment; ultimately it was ruled at Tribunal and reinforced at appeal that the sole purpose of the building was not to house ECA, the building was “land” rather than ECA itself, so the lease was a Code agreement and the termination mechanism in Part 5 of the Code had to be followed. Oliver Radley-Gardner KC‘s work also includes significant Code-related disputes, such as Vodafone v APW & Icon. Fern Schofield is considered ‘excellent’, and Wayne Clark KC was appointed silk in March 2025.
