Appearing before the courts at all levels as well as in specialist tribunals, members of Francis Taylor Building’s team act on behalf of local authorities, government departments and private entities. Richard Glover KC has significant expertise across a range of issues in this area, notably, council tax, compulsory purchase and compensation, and is acting for the claimant in Accor Economy Hotels v HS2, a claim relating to the valuation of the Ibis hotel at Euston, which was acquired for HS2 - the case pitches him against Richard Honey KC for HS2. Hugh Flanagan  will appear before the Court of Appeal in Network Rail Infrastructure Limited v Karl List, a case concerning the non-domestic rating of advertisements in Network Rail stations.

Dan Kolinsky KC  stands out for his long-standing expertise in this sector, having appeared before the Supreme Court numerous times - he led Katherine Traynor in City of London v Principled Offsite Logistics Limited, a test case addressing whether the Supreme Court’s decision in Rossendale v Hurstwood impacts on the intermittent occupations to mitigate unoccupied rates liability; David Forsdick KC was on the other side of the case, representing the City of London Corporation. Jenny Wigley KC is noted for her expertise in non-domestic rating and the council tax matters. Luke Wilcox acts unled in Blackrock v Hitchings, a case concerning the rating treatment of warehouses undergoing refurbishment schemes between tenants.
