Specialised aviation boutique Sierra LATAM is equipped to handle the gamut of aviation law mandates, encompassing aviation leasing and finance, regulatory matters and litigation. Additional core areas of expertise for the team include operations and authorisations matters, transactional tax advice and the repossession of commercial aircraft and other aircraft equipment from defaulting airlines in Mexico. Working from offices in Mexico City, Cancún and Miami, the firm’s operations span a broad range of Latin American countries, among them Panama, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic. Leadership of the practice is shared between founding and managing partner Carlos Sierra, Jessi Saba, Carlos Campillo, Misael Arellano and Julio Vargas. Sierra draws on extensive experience advising lessors and financiers on aircraft leasings and financings, the enforcement of the clients’ rights during default, liquidation and insolvency proceedings. Miami-based Saba heads up the transactional group and specialises in cross-border asset-finance structures in Mexico and Latin America and advising financial institutions on structured financing and leasing matters. Campillo, who joined the firm as practice co-head in April 2025 from Alegre, Calderón y Márquez Abogados, S.C., also covers a range of transactional mandates. Cancún-based Arellano majors on handling regulatory and compliance aspects for airline operations and obtaining governmental licenses and authorisations before the necessary authorities. Vargas, for his part, directs the firm’s litigation group. Key associate Natalia Deschamps supports the partners on transactional and regulatory mandates. Viridiana Barquín left the firm in February 2025.
